We offer Suzuki instruction in piano, violin, cello and flute. The Suzuki Method is recognized throughout the world as a highly successful educational method of music instruction.

Dr. Shinichi Suzuki "Mother-tongue Method" of teaching recognizes the unlimited potential in every child. Children are encouraged to learn music in a natural way similar to the way they learn a language – by listening and imitation, repetition and receiving praise and encouragement in a positive learning environment (home and in class). Note-reading skills are introduced later, once the child is comfortable with the instrument. An early beginning and home support help make music a part of your child’s daily life.

Our program relies strongly on the cooperative relationship of teacher, parent and student to create a successful learning experience for the child and for parents to create a supportive, affectionate and encouraging music environment for their child at home. Parental participation is integral and involves:

  • playing recorded repertoire at home on a daily basis.
  • providing a quality acoustic instrument.
  • learning the fundamentals of playing the instrument although it is not necessary for the parents to have a music background.
  • attending each lesson with the student, taking notes or recording the lessons and practicing daily with the student at home.
  • creating a supportive, affectionate and encouraging musical environment for the child.

Parents interested in enrolling their child in Suzuki classes and wanting more information should contact the School at 604.534.2848. Orientation sessions are scheduled at various times during the year. It is mandatory to attend one session before registration is accepted. Very young children are encouraged to take Orff classes, which complement the Suzuki program. Priority placement is given to students enrolled in Orff classes.
