ORFF FOR CHILDREN
The
Orff method was developed by German composer Carl Orff in the early
part of the 20th century. He firmly believed that music training should
be combined with movement and drama to create well
rounded musicians. The Orff approach to music education
is holistic, experiential and process oriented.
Orff classes are offered (selected) weekday mornings. Recorder classes
are offered (selected) weekday afternoons.
AGE 3 – 6 YEARS OLD
Students are
grouped into classes according to age and experience with beginner classes available
at any age. Classes cover an extensive range of rich material including
folk songs, drama, games, stories, dance, poems and rhymes. Students
also play a variety of pitched and non-pitched percussion instruments.
A sequential series of classes over a long period
of time allows your child to develop and appreciation and understanding
of music through creative activities. These skills will last a lifetime
and will enhance their learning of an instrument.
RECORDER PROGRAM 7 - 11 YEARS OLD
(Recorder 1, Recorder 2, Recorder 3, and Recorder Club)
In the Recorder Program, young musicians enjoy learning basic music
theory and composition skills while preparing solo and ensemble work in
a creative and playful environment. Prior experience in the Orff Program
is not required.
MUSIC, MOVEMENT AND MORE - School Age
Children
Children will experience and learn the basics of music in a group
setting during this special program. The class uses the sequencing of
Kodaly, the movement ideas of Dalcroze and Laban, and the drama, singing
and diverse instrumental experiences of Orff. Children will share the
successes of the group in learning pitch, beat, rhythm and basic note
reading. These skills will form a basis for solid music instruction
either concurrently or sometime in the future.
