MUSIC FOR CHILDREN (ORFF)
Age 3-5 years
The Orff approach to music education is holistic, and follows the pedagogy of imitation, exploration, literacy and improvisation.  Through activities in speech, song, movement, and instrumental play, the child is encouraged to develop an understanding of musical concepts and then use these skills in a personal, creative way.

Beginning in September, children will "learn through doing" by exploring and improvising in small groups.  using the "sound before symbol" approach, classes provide basic music education and develop skills in preparation for individual instrument study.  Orff is strongly recommended prior to starting Suzuki instrument study.  Students are grouped according to age.

Classes cover an extensive range of rich material including folk songs, drama, games, stories, dance, poems and rhymes.  Students also play a variety of Orff instruments.  A sequential series of classes over time allows your child to develop an appreciation and understanding of music through creative activities.

EXPLORING MUSIC

Age 5-6 years

Building on Orff music fundamentals, students are introduced to basic note reading while continuing to learn about pitch, beat, and rhythm.  The class explores music using dance, poetry and song, and continues to play Orff instruments as a group and individually.  Family and friends are invited to several class presentations throughout the year.  This class may also support individual music instruction whether taken concurrently or at sometime in the future.

MUSIC ADVENTURES
